    Benefits

    Easy to Install
LEVOLOR Shutters have a number of features that make installation a breeze even if you have never installed a shutter before! Our frames snap tightly together – with the locking corner key. LEVOLOR Shutters’ unique 2-leaf hinge allows for panels to be installed (or removed for cleaning) easily by one person.

    Maintenance Free
Our compound features a permanent finish that will never warp, shrink, chip, peel, crack or fade and never needs painting. Our smooth finish makes cleaning a snap with ordinary soap and water.

    Waterproof Design
LEVOLOR Shutters will not warp or crack due to water exposure, and our tilt-bar is not attached with staples (unlike other brands) which can rust and break over time. They are ideal for use above kitchen sinks, bathrooms, or waterfront homes.

    Fire Retardant
Polyresin 3® is fire retardant and self-extinguishing. It is safe to use in residential and commercial applications and meets (NFPA701) National Fire Code Standards.

    GREENGUARD
LEVOLOR Shutters have been tested and certified for both GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality and GREENGUARD for Children and Schools. Visit www.greenguard.org for more information.

    Child Safe Design
LEVOLOR Shutters are one of the safest window covering options for homes with children and pets. LEVOLOR Shutters do not feature dangling cords which can be hazardous to children.

    How to Measure

    Measure For Inside Mounting

Mounting Shutters Inside a Window Opening (With or Without Molding)

    1. 1. Use a durable steel tape measure (do not use a cloth tape).
    2. 2. Measure all windows separately, no matter how similar they look.
    3. 3. Measure the inside of the window opening, not the glass.
    4. 4. Measure window width in 3 places. Record the narrowest measurement and round down to the nearest 1/8-in.
    5. 5. Measure window height in 3 places. Record the shortest measurement and round down to the nearest 1/8-in.
    6. 6. Do not make any deductions, allowances or additions.
    7. 7. Check for squareness by measuring on diagonals

Note: If diagonals are not the same, (less than 1/2-in difference) and the window does not have a molding, a décor trim frame is suggested to allow for easier installation. If diagonal measurement differs by more than 1/2-in, choose outside mount.

    Measure For Outside Mounting

Mounting Shutters Outside a Window Opening (Window Without Molding - L Frame Only)

    1. 1. Use a durable steel tape measure (do not use a cloth tape).
    2. 2. Measure all windows separately, no matter how similar they look.
    3. 3. Measure the inside of the window opening, not the glass
    4. 4. Measure the window width in 3 places. Record the widest measurement. Round up to the nearest 1/8-in.
    5. 5. Measure the window height in 3 places. Record the longest measurement. Round up to the nearest 1/8-in.
    6. 6. It is necessary to have 1-5/8-in additional space on all sides of the opening to mount frames.

Note: We will add necessary adjustments to your window measurements so that shutter will mount directly around window. If you desire your shutter to be a specific width or height, order as exact outside mount finished size.

    Measure For Outside Mounting

Mounting Shutters Outside a Window Opening (On Existing Molding - L Frame Only)

    1. 1. Use a durable steel tape measure (do not use a cloth tape).
    2. 2. Measure all windows separately, no matter how similar they look.
    3. 3. Measure the width to the outer edges of the molding in three places (your molding is part of the measurement). Record the widest measurement rounding up to the nearest 1/8-in.
    4. 4. Measure the height to the outer edges of the molding in 3 places (your molding is part of the measurement). If you have a sill, measure from the top of the sill to the top of the molding. Record the longest measurement rounding up to the nearest 1/8-in.
    5. 5. Do not take any deductions, allowances or additions.

    Special "MUST" Requirements:

    • Molding must be at least 1-1/4-in wide, and have at least 3/4-in flat surface.
    • If your molding does not meet the above specifications, you must hang your shutters onto the wall, beyond and around the molding.

    Achieving Panel Consistency

To achieve a uniform appearance, as well as maintain an equal number of louvers in adjacent shutters, all shutters must be ordered the same height.

If the height measurements differ, apply one of the options below:

    1. For inside mount — order shutters the same height using the shorter window height measurement.
      • With z frame, you may reduce taller shutters up to 1/2-in maximum.
      • With trim frame, bullnose, or décor trim frame you may reduce taller shutters up to 5/8-in maximum.
      • For height adjustments of more than 5/8-in, we recommend an outside mount.
    2. For outside mount — order shutters the same height using taller window height measurement.
Panel consistency is easier to attain with framed shutters, Height adjustments to achieve consistency are not recommended for mounting strip applications.

    Locating Divider Rails

There is no extra charge for divider rails. Divider rails are required for shutter panels over 66-inches in height.

Two divider rails are required for shutters over 90-inches in height. Divider rails separate the top louvers from the bottom louvers. This allows the bottom half of shutters to be fully closed for privacy, while allowing the upper half to be open.

You can request the approximate height of the divider rail placement. For example, it may be necessary to match an existing window divider. Simply supply the measurements from the bottom of shutter to the center of the divider rail location.

It is important to note that the exact location may vary from the height you request. Location of divider rails may vary up or down by 1-1/2-in.

Note: Additional details are available in the How to Install Instructions PDF (above)

    1. Tools You May Need (not included):

    • - Rechargeable, variable speed drill
    • - 3/8” diameter drill bit
    • - 3” Robertson bits #1 and #2
    • - Slot screwdriver
    • - Non marring hammer with 1” head
    • - Level
    • - Caulk or sealant for both mitered corners and to cover gaps between the frames and window jambs
    • - Pencil
    • - Loctite® glue 414 or contact cement required for outside mount L frame applications (not supplied)
    • - Jig Saw, Hack saw, Dremmel® Tool or exacto knife if cut-outs are required

    2. Parts Description

Panel locks are located at the top and bottom of a shutter panel. They are used to keep panels securely closed and can also be used to level the panel. Panel locks are standard for 4-sided frames and eliminates the need for magnets.

    3. Frame Assembly

    1. Frame assembly

    • Lay frame sides flat beside the panels to ensure that the frames will be assembled correctly and that the hinges on the panels and the frames will be in alignment.
    • Frames are pre-drilled with installation holes.
    • Installation holes are located just below each hinge on the side frames (except bottom hole is located just above the bottom hinge). Top and bottom frames should have evenly spaced holes no more than 16” apart.
    • Insert the plastic corner keys into both ends of the top and bottom frames. Note: Bonding is only required for an outside mount L-frame application. (see step #2)
    • Slide the corner key that is in the top and bottom frames into the end of each side frame.
    • Using a rubber mallet hammer, give a firm tap to the frame to ensure the corner keys are fully engaged.

    2. Glue Corner Keys (Outside Mount L-Frame Only)

    • Apply Loctite® 414 (or Contact Cement) to inside surface of the corner key cavity of both frame corners to be assembled. (not supplied)
    • Insert the corner key, making sure the mitered corner is clean, tight and in alignment. Hold firmly till set (10 to 20 seconds).
    • Repeat for remaining corners.

Note: It will be impossible to detach the corners after the adhesive has set.

    3. Metal L-Brackets

    • The Trim Frame, Bullnose and Décor Trim Frame will also include metal L Brackets which are attached to the back side of the frame.
    • With the frame face down, set a metal L Bracket on the back ofthe frame in each corner with the mounting holes bevel side up.
    • Using the supplied screws (#6 x 5/8”), set 4 screws in each bracket to firmly secure the corners.
    • If minor gaps appear, use caulk or sealant to seal the corners once the shutter is completely installed.

Note: For Bullnose, Deluxe Trim, and Trim frames, in addition to the corner key, install a 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” x 1/2” (90˚) metal bracket for a more secure corner assembly (do not glue).
