How to Measure

Measure For Inside Mounting

Measuring For Inside Mount Roller Shades

Find Width:

Measure exact distance between inside surfaces of window frame at the top, middle, and bottom, and use the narrowest width.

Find Height:

Measure exact distance from inside surface at top of window to sill. If you prefer shade not to touch sill, deduct 1/4". If there is no sill, measure height to point where shade is to reach.

To install the product flush with the window frame, a minimum window depth of 3" is required.

Tip-to-Tip Measure is the common measure type for most roller shades. Choosing this measure type will include the headrail "pegs" that mount the shade to the wall or frame.

Measure For Outside Mounting

Measuring For Outside Mount Roller Shades

Find Width:

Measure exact distance between the outermost points where the shade is to be placed. This measurement should overlap each side of window frame by at least 1-1/2". Factory makes no deduction from your shade width dimensions.

Find Height:

Measure exact distance from where top of shade will be located to top of sill. If there is no sill or if shade is to overlap window frame, measure to point shade is to reach.

Cloth Measure is uncommon and should only be used for Outside Frame applications. The headrail is wider than the cloth of the shade which causes the "pegs" to extend beyond the width of the shade material. This total distance is 1-3/8" wide, or a gap of 11/16" on each side of the shade material.

Allow Some Overlap

For outside mount applications allow the shade to overlap 1-1/2" to 3" on the sides, top and bottom of the window.

You must add the overlap to your measurement; LEVOLOR does not add width or height for overlap on Outside Mounted shades.

How to Install Stock Roller Shades

Before installing shade, please read all instructions thoroughly.

Tools You May Need (not included):

  • Tape Measure
  • Level
  • Pencil
  • Flat-blade or Philips Head Screwdriver
  • Nutdriver
  • Drill with Bits
  • Drywall Anchors
  • Safety glasses
  • Ladder

Step 1

Mount Brackets

Brackets can be used for either an inside or outside mount application (Fig. 1).

  • When mounting make sure to mount the bracket with the square hole on the side that you want the clutch control.

Step 2

Attach Clutch

Clutch can be attached at either end of the shade to ensure maximum operation range, but must correspond with bracket. Before inserting clutch mechanism into roller tube:

  • Choose what side you want the clutch control on (Remove endcap if needed and replace on other side)
  • Push smaller side of clutch into desired side of shade.

Note: Clutch operates smoothly when covered part of clutch mechanism faces upward. To allow for maximum drop length, ensure that the beaded chain connector (on the clutch) is raised to the highest point at the rear of the clutch prior to inserting into roller tube (Fig. 2).

Step 3

Mount Shade

Insert clutch side of shade into square bracket hole and opposite side of shade into round bracket hole.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible product! The shades fell off the rollers within days of hanging. Not secured well to roller so have had to staple shade to roller. Also, the spring action won't work. It's a good thing I don't put the shades up and down. I have some shades in my house that have lasted 30 yrs and these didn't work from the get go, I don't care if they aren't top of the line. Shouldn't sell junk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a blackout at all! I had one shade custom cut at Lowe's. Thankfully I didn't get the five I needed. Immediately I could see that the tips protrude much further than my old shade (30 years old, brand unknown). I lost half an inch of vinyl coverage for the same size shade. Light leaks in on the left side especially, and this is not working as a bedroom blackout shade! I am very disappointed. Furthermore, the actual vinyl is not as light blocking as the old one, as I can actually see the outline of the six panes of glass on the top sash, right through the shade! I can't recommend this for a bedroom.
