How to Measure

Measure For Inside Mounting

Measuring For Inside Mount Cellular Shades

Find Width:

Measure exact distance between inside surfaces of window frame at the top, middle, and bottom, and use the narrowest width. Do not make any width deductions. For custom shades, the factory will automatically deduct 3/8" from the shade width; for Stock shades, a 1/2" deduction will be taken on the entire shade.

Find Height:

Measure exact distance from inside surface at top of window to sill. If you prefer shade not to touch sill, deduct 1/4". If there is no sill, measure height to point where shade is to reach.

Measure For Outside Mounting

Measuring For Outside Mount Cellular Shades

Find Width:

Measure exact distance between the outermost points where the shade is to be placed. This measurement should overlap each side of window frame by at least 1-1/2". Factory makes no deduction from your shade width dimensions.

Find Height:

Measure exact distance from where top of shade will be located to top of sill. If there is no sill or if shade is to overlap window frame, measure to point shade is to reach

Allow Some Overlap

For outside mount applications allow the shade to overlap 1-1/2" to 3" on the sides, top and bottom of the window.

You must add the overlap to your measurement; LEVOLOR does not add width or height for overlap on Outside Mounted shades.

Critical Dimensions

Minimum Mounting Surface

  Headrail Dimensions
(Depth x Height)
Headrail Protrudes
(Side, Back or Top Mount)
Flush Mount Headrail
Corded Double Cell 2-1/8" x 9/16" 5/8" 2-1/2"
Corded Single Cell 1-7/8" x 9/16" 5/8" 2-1/4"
Cordless and Continuous Cordloop 1-7/8" x 1-3/8" 1/2" 2-1/8"
Stock Cordless 3/4" x 1-1/2" 5/8" 1-7/8"

Use the above chart to verify that you have adequate window depth for mounting.

NOTE: If flush mount is desired, the headrail will not extend past the window frame into the room. Consider headrail size and brackets when installing flush mount.

How to Install Stock Cellular Shades

Read all installation instructions!

  • Make sure that you have all tools and hardware needed for installation.
  • Check the installation surface (wall, ceiling, or window frame) to ensure that you have suitable fasteners and tools for the material.
  • Double check the headrail and shade for proper width and length. If you are installing several sets of shades, be sure to match them with the appropriate window.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from They break too easily! We bought 4 of these shades. One of them is large, about 64 inches wide, and we open and close this one everyday since it's in our bedroom. The first one started acting up (not opening all the way) within a couple weeks and completely failed in about 4 months. We replaced it and the new one has been up for less than 2 months and it's failing now too. Seems like the internal parts get tangled or something hangs up and they stop working. Either way... they're junk. You would expect these type of blinds to work for more than a couple months before breaking. We'll be looking for better quality replacements when this one breaks for sure.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mechanism broken again! We have several shades around the house and we had to change already twice 2 different shades as the mechanism that lifts the shade broke. There is no way to open the shade and fix it so basically after only 2 years we have to buy another shade. We were lucky to exchange the first two broken shades as it was still within a warranty time frame. Bad quality. And I guess we have to look for another brand as it is becoming an expensive habit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safe, easy, durable, insulating I've installed these blinds myself in 3 different houses, and have no complaints. If you measure them right, they work effortlessly, even withstanding my two young boys. That is where the safety comes in. I don't worry about them choking on cords, and I don't get frustrated trying to line up my cords. I am a pediatrician, and I tell my patients to get them. They also seem to insulate and do well keeping a room fairly shaded from light and cold. One key is to buy the standard sizes available in your local hardware store, and have them cut down to size right there, as opposed to buying the more expensive and unnecessary custom sizes. If I'm not getting plantation shutters, I get these.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from If only they lasted more than a few months I love the look, the ease of installation and the operation. I bought 9 of these, and we raise and lower them all everyday. But after a few months several began to fail - they would not go all the way up anymore. You can feel the internal cord catching on something. If only one failed, I'd overlook it. But in less than a year 4 of the 9 have had problems. Lowes took them back (keep your receipts!), but I should not be replacing one or two every few months now. One minor nit - the plastic end caps fall off a little too easily.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Need to go back to the old brackets We bought these shades to replace the ones we had when we got new windows, and the old ones were too long. Good thing we saved the old brackets, because the new brackets would not work. We could not snap the blinds in securely. Poor design with the new bracket. Also, the endcaps on the bottom of the blinds will not stay put, we have to super glue them on! not happy since 3 windows cost us just shy of $600.00.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage Purchased these at Lowe's and from the get-go they were garbage. Don't fully open and frustrating to keep opening/closing over and over to get them to the proper coverage area. Ugh..............can't find anything online as a simple fix as the spring motor is located at the bottom rail in a sealed unit. Never again would we purchase this brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nice but breaks to easily Broke the first day!! Looks good but have to leave it the position it's in now

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst shade ever...brackets are cheap Terrible design. Brackets have changed and do not snap in easily. One would not snap in at all. End pieces fall out. Returning it to Lowes. Let them try it! Extremely frustrating and a waste of time.
