How to Measure

Measure For Inside Mounting

Measuring For Inside Mount Soft Vertical Shades

Find Width:

Measure the opening across the top where the headrail is to be installed from inside of window frame on left to inside of window frame on right. Round the measurement down to the nearest 1/8". A minimum depth of 2-7/8" is needed to install inside the window.

Find Height:

Measure from the inside top of the opening on the left, at the center, and on the right to the sill; round the measurement down to the nearest 1/8" and note the smallest dimension. Do not make any allowances: the factory will make all adjustments so the headrail will fit the opening properly and the vanes will clear the sill by 1/4" to 1/2".

Mounting Depth Requirements
  Custom Order
Minimum Depth* 2-7/8"
Headrail Flush 3-1/2"
Flush Mount Vanes and Fabric Folds 6-1/4"
Flush Mount Channel Valance 4-1/8"
Flush Mount Fabric Wrap Valance 5-1/2"

NOTE: Estate Valance not available inside mount.

* Minimum mounting depth is the depth required, in the window frame, for the sheers to be mounted inside mount.

Measure For Outside Mounting

Measuring For Outside Mount Soft Vertical Shades

Find Width:

Measure the width of the area to be covered at the place where the headrail will be installed to the nearest 1/8". Sheers should overlap opening at least 4" on each side to ensure privacy. To maintain the maximum view, allow adequate overlap, and consider the stack width.

Find Height:

Measure the height of the area to be covered and round down to the nearest 1/8". Sheers should extend at least 3" above and 3" below opening or window moulding. For ceiling-to-floor installations, make adequate allowance for carpeting. Specifying Outside Mount measurement means the factory makes no allowances.

Allow Some Overlap

For outside mount applications allow the sheers to overlap 1-1/2" to 3" on the sides, top and bottom of the window.

You must add the overlap to your measurement; LEVOLOR does not add width or height for overlap on Outside Mounted sheers.

Notes

Sheers installed on windows near a wall or baseboard heaters must clear the heaters by 12" above and 6" to the side.

Measure For Outside Mounting

Measuring For Patio Doors

Find Width:

Measure the width of the area to be covered at the place where the headrail will be installed to the nearest 1/8". Sheers should overlap opening at least 4" on each side to ensure privacy. To ensure easy access through the door and allow adequate overlap, consider the stack width. To calculate stack dimensions, consult the Vane Count and Stack Size Chart.

Find Height:

Measure the height of the area to be covered and round down to the nearest 1/8". Sheers should extend at least 3" above opening or window moulding. For ceiling-to-floor installations, deduct 1/2" for proper clearance. Specifying Outside Mount measurement means the factory makes no allowances.

To Use This Chart:

Use the appropriate column for One Way or Dual Stack sheers. Find the width that you need to clear under the column marked "Clear Opening." Order the sheers size listed at the far left. Split Draw sheers must have an even number of vanes.

How to Install Custom Soft Vertical Shades

Before you begin your installation:

Read all installation instructions!

  • Make sure that you have all tools and hardware needed for installation.
  • Check the installation surface (wall, ceiling, or window frame) to ensure that you have suitable fasteners and tools for the material.
  • Double check the headrail and shade for proper width and length. If you are installing several sets of shades, be sure to match them with the appropriate window.
  • Check the parts list shipped with the product to confirm that you have the correct number of brackets.
  • Please refer to the separate valance installation instructions included with your order.

Tools You May Need (not included):

  • Tape Measure
  • Level
  • Pencil
  • 3/8" Wrench
  • Flat-blade or Philips Head Screwdriver
  • 1/4" Nutdriver
  • Drill with Bits
  • Drywall Anchors
  • Scissors or Utility Knife
  • Ladder

Optional Brackets:

Extension Brackets

(Offers clearance for obstructions) Outside mounting extension brackets will provide 1"-3" clearance between the headrail and mounting surface. Assemble extension bracket as shown. Secure an extension bracket to each standard mounting bracket.

Step 1A

Mark the bracket locations - outside mount installation

  • Position one bracket at each end of the headrail, 3" in from the ends.
  • Space any remaining brackets evenly, not more than 30" apart.
  • Mark the bracket mounting hole locations at the desired height, making sure they are level and square. Allow at least 1/2" clearance for vanes above the floor or sill.

Step 2A

Install the brackets - outside-mount installation

  • If mounting into drywall or plaster, use 3/16" drill bit and insert wall anchors before inserting screws.

Step 1B

Mark the bracket locations — inside-mount installation

  • Position one bracket at each end of the headrail, 3" in from the ends.
  • Space any remaining brackets evenly, not more than 30" apart.
  • Mark the bracket locations, making sure they are in a straight line that is parallel to the wall.
  • Determining the correct distance from the wall or window: Position the center of the brackets a min. 2 7/8" in front of the window frame or any protruding trim or handles.

Step 2B

Install the brackets — inside-mount installation

Install in a wood window frame using the included screws.

For models equipped with a valance, the valance mounting clips should be installed to the headrail at this time. Please refer to the installation instructions included with your valance before proceeding.

Step 3

Attach the headrail — outside- or inside-mount

  • NOTE: For wide windows and sliding glass doors, two people are recommended for installing the headrail.
  • With the bracket positioned as shown, fit the top front lip of the headrail into the front part of the spring clip.
  • Tip the back of the headrail up into the spring clip until it locks with a clicking sound.

Step 4

Center the Vane Rotation

Models With Wand

  • Attach the wand.
  • Rotate the wand so that the vane clips are at a right angle to the window.

Models with Vane-Rotation Chains

  • Adjust the vane-rotation chain so that it is centered (ends of chain should be even). Vane clips should be at a right angle to the window (open position).

Step 5

Using the vane pack hanger kit

  • A vane pack hanger kit is included to simplify installation and support the vanes during installation. This kit will support the vane packs while the vanes are being transferred to the headrail. Pull the wand so that all of the vane clips are stacked at the ends of the headrail.
  • Rotate the hanger plates into position in the headrail about 24-28 inches apart, near the vane clips.

  • Attach the hanger brackets onto the screw posts of the hanger plates. Tighten the wingnuts securely on the screw posts. Insert the hanger bar into the hooks on the brackets, centering it on the brackets.

Step 6

Attach the Vanes

  • WARNING: The vane packs can be heavy! Two people are recommended for installing the vane packs on larger windows!
  • Remove the twist tie(s) and any tape holding the vanes together and separate the vane packs, if you have two. Hook the vane pack onto the hanger bar using the plastic hooks as shown.
  • NOTE: You may wish to thread the hanger bar through the hooks BEFORE hanging the vanes.
  • Remove the foam shipping dividers between the vanes. One at a time, unhook the plastic hooks from the hanger bar and remove the hook from the vane by pressing it sideways.
  • Starting at one end, align the slot on the vane with the vane clip and press the vane up into the clip until it clicks into place. Be careful not to trap the fabric under the clip.
  • Repeat for the remaining vanes, being careful not to skip any clips.
  • HINT: If you accidentally skip a clip, carefully slide a credit card or similar flat object under the clip to help disengage it from the vane.

For models with dual stack:
Once all vanes have been attached on one end of the headrail, remove the vane pack hanger kit and repeat steps 5 and 6 with the other vane pack at the other end of the headrail.

After all vanes have been installed, remove the hanger kit and discard.

Step 7

Attach the tension device (cord/chain control only)

Refer to instructions in the hold-down tension device.

Step 8

Test the Vane Rotation

Turn the wand or pull the bead chain in alternate directions to ensure that the vanes rotate smoothly in both directions.

Step 9

Test the Traverse

With the vanes in the open position (vanes at a right angle to the window), slide the wand or pull the cord in alternate directions to ensure that the vanes move smoothly in both directions.

Please refer to the valance instructions for your valance style at this time to complete your installation.

Cleaning and Care

Routine care of Soft Vertical Shades will allow the shade to provide elegance and versatility for years of enjoyment.

Recomended Cleaning Methods

Routine Maintenance
Periodic dusting will keep the shade looking clean and new. For many shades this will be the only cleaning required. Occasionally it might be necessary to remove excess dust accumulation by using the soft brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner

Stain Removal
At Home - Should the shade become soiled, it may be necessary to spot clean. Gently dab the stain with lukewarm water and add a mild detergent if needed. Careful blotting of the fabric should avoid creasing or wrinkling. With any detergent solution, always test for colorfastness on an inconspicuous area.

Call local on-site blind/shade cleaner - Most on-site blind and shade cleaners use a cleaning method called injection/extraction cleaning. This type of cleaning injects a cleaning solution into the fabric and extracts the dirty solution at the same time. The service is typically performed at home so you do not need to remove your window treatment. Check your local phonebook for companies in your area.

Color Variation

Replacement vanes may be ordered to replace damaged vanes or for a decorating change. When ordering, indicate the style of blind and the number of vanes needed. Specify Finished Blind Height (height of blind including headrail) or Exact Vane Length (length of a vane excluding the headrail).

Note: There is no guarantee of color match to the original order. Pricing for individual vanes is on the far right of each price grid.
