How to Measure

Measure For Inside Mounting

Measuring For Inside Mount Natural Shades

Find Width:

Measure width of window opening at three different places and use the narrowest dimension for ordering. A 1/2" deduction will be taken automatically for inside mount.

Find Height:

Measure the height of window from top of opening to top of sill in two places. Use the longest dimension. If you prefer shade not to touch sill, deduct 1/4". If there is no sill, measure height to point where shade is to reach

To install the product flush with the window frame, a minimum window depth of 2" is required for custom shades and 2-1/4" for Stock shades.

Minimum Mounting Depth *
  Custom Order Stock
All Shades 3/4" 3/4"
* Minimum mounting depth is the depth required, in the window frame, for the shade to be mounted inside mount.

Measure For Outside Mounting

Measuring For Outside Mount Natural Shades

Find Width:

Measure the exact width of the area to be covered. It is recommended that 3" be added to the shade width for the standard overlap of 1-1/2" on each side.

Find Height:

Measure the height of the area to be covered. Measure from the ceiling or desired point above the window to approximately 1-1/2" below the window frame. If there is no sill or if shade is to overlap window frame, measure to the point the shade reaches.

Allow Some Overlap

For outside mount applications allow the shade to overlap 1-1/2" to 3" on the sides, top and bottom of the window.

You must add the overlap to your measurement; LEVOLOR does not add width or height for overlap on Outside Mounted shades.

Measure For Multiple Blinds per Headrail

Measuring For Inside Mount Multiple Shades on One Headrail

Overall Shade Width - Measure the window's width at the top, middle, and bottom. Order the narrowest measurement.

Left Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the left shade to cover.

Right Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the right shade to cover.

Height - Measure the window from the top to the bottom for the desired height.

Order the left shade first when placing the order.

Measure For Multiple Blinds per Headrail

Measuring For Outside Mount Multiple Shades on One Headrail

Overall Shade Width - Measure the desired width. For maximum privacy and window coverage, add an additional 3" to total width of window.

Left Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the left shade to cover.

Right Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the right shade to cover. The left shade width, plus the right shade width must equal the overall shade width.

Height - Measure the window from the top to the bottom for the desired height. For maximum privacy and window coverage, add at least 3" to overall height of the window.

Order the left shade first when placing the order.

Notes

The left shade width plus the right shade width must equal the overall shade width.

There will be a 1/2" inner space between the fabric on the left and right shades to allow for shades to operate independently.

Available in all operating systems except Top Down/Bottom Up.

Horizontal pattern alignment between shades is not guaranteed.

Must include Classic or Wood Valance.

A continuous valance up to 96" is available for Classic and Wood Valance; after 96" valance will be spliced.

Lift control will be located on the outside of each shade.

Not available with Angle Top, Cathedral or Cutout option.

How to Install Custom Natural Shades

Before you begin your installation:

Read all installation instructions!

IMPORTANT: If bound, do not remove binding until the shade is installed in the window.

  • Make sure that you have all tools and hardware needed for installation.
  • Check the installation surface (wall, ceiling, or window frame) to ensure that you have suitable fasteners and tools for the material.
  • Double check the headrail and shade for proper width and length. If you are installing several sets of shades, be sure to match them with the appropriate window.
  • Check the parts list shipped with the product to confirm that you have the correct number of brackets.

Tools You May Need (not included):

  • Tape Measure
  • Level
  • Pencil
  • 3/8" Wrench
  • Flat-blade or Philips Head Screwdriver
  • 1/4" Nutdriver
  • Drill with Bits
  • Scissors or Utility Knife
  • Safety glasses
  • Ladder

Step 1

Mounting Bracket

There are two types of brackets used for installing woven wood shades. Bracket quantity may vary depending on shade width. Bracket type (inside- or outside-mount) is specified when ordered. In some cases, both types may be included. Only two screws are required per bracket.

NOTE: Depending on the width of your custom shade, additional brackets may be included; refer to the holes in the headrail for mounting locations.

Inside Mount

Outside Mount

Step 2

Using the bracket spacers

If your shades include spacers, slip the spacers over the bolt section of each bracket at this time.

Step 3A

Mark the bracket locations — outside-mount installation

  • Using the notches in the head rail as a guide for bracket placement, mark the locations of the bracket mounting holes. Only two screws are needed per bracket.
  • Use a level to check for levelness.
  • Continue to step 4A.

Step 4A

Install the brackets — outside-mount installation

Example: Installation using included screws and any needed fasteners or wall anchors.

  • Using the marks made in step 3 as a guide, attach the brackets, using two screws per bracket.
  • Continue to step 5.

Step 3B

Mark the bracket locations — inside-mount installation

The shade has been custom-measured and assembled to fit inside the window casements.

  • Position the inside-mount brackets at each end of the headrail.
  • Using the notches in the headrail as a guide for bracket placement, mark the locations of the bracket mounting holes, making sure they are square and evenly spaced from the window. Only two screws are needed per bracket.
  • Continue to step 4B.

Step 4B

Install the brackets — inside-mount installation

Example: Installation in a window frame using the included screws.

  • Using the marks made in step 3 as a guide, attach the brackets, using two screws per bracket.
  • Continue to step 5.

Step 5

Attach the headrail to the mounting brackets

  • Make sure the wing nuts are removed from the screws.
  • The threaded shafts on the brackets slide through the slots on the headrail, and the headrail is secured by the wing nuts.

Step 6

Attach the optional hold-down brackets (on some styles)

NOTE: Some styles may have the hold-down pins built into the bottom rail.

  • Tap the hold-down pin into the center hole on the bottom rail.
  • Attach the hold-down brackets at the bottom of the window with the included screws, as shown for your installation type.
  • Slip the hold-down pin into the hole in the bracket.

Step 7

Install the cord cleat or cord guide (on some styles)

  • Using the included screws, attach the optional cord cleat to the wall or window frame on the side with the draw cord, as shown.
  • Excess cord may be wrapped around the cleat when the shade is raised.

Step 8

Attach the tension device (cord/chain control only)

Refer to instructions in the hold-down tension device.

Step 9

Attach the optional valance returns (outside mount only)

Wood Valance

  • Insert the clips into the groove on the back side of the valance and then rotate the clip 90°.
  • Insert return clips as far as they will go into each end of the valance.

  • Align the return clips with the slots on the headrail and slide into place.

Classic Valance and No Valance

  • Align the valance return with the end of the headrail, with the hook-and-loop strips at the top.
  • Firmly press the valance return into place so that the hook-and-loop strips engage.

Shade adjustment and alignment

Your shade has been carefully inspected and adjusted by the factory, but minor adjustments may be necessary once it has been installed. The yarns in your shade are flexible enough to permit minor adjustment horizontally and vertically for proper alignment on your window. If the bottom of your shade becomes uneven, pull either side to stretch the yarn and align the shade.

If your shade doesn’t lie flat against the wall or window, roll the shade tightly from the bottom and twist roll clockwise on one side and counterclockwise on the other. This will align the yarns and slats.

Should a strand of yarn slip off the edge of the shade, remove the strand from top to bottom; doing so will in no way affect the strength of the shade.

Recommended Cleaning Methods

Care Instructions
Periodically vacuum with a brush attachment to ensure lasting beauty. With proper care and maintenance, Natural Shades should last for years. Do not use water, solvents, or abrasive solutions to clean the shade.

Color Variation
LEVOLOR Natural Shades are created using natural products. By nature, no two strands of grass, bamboo or reeds are exactly the same, making every shade truly unique. Slight color, grain and texture variations should be expected and cherished for their unique beauty.

Stretching and Shrinking
Natural woven fabric will be affected by temperature and humidity. Shipping and handling may cause a slight change in shade lengths, and slight shrinkage, stretching and warping may occur over time.
NOTE: Material stretching may be more noticeable on inside mounts.

Mitered Shades on Corner Windows†

Measuring Inside Mount:

  1. If the valance is to be flush with the front of the opening, measure the front width of the window opening and add 1-5/8" for the width of each shade. This will be the shade size. The factory will automatically take an allowance of 1/4" off each shade for clearance, unless you specify otherwise.
  2. To measure height, use standard inside measuring procedures

Measuring Outside Mount/Ceiling Mount:

  1. Shade widths are obtained by measuring from the corner to a point approximately 1-1/2" beyond window opening or frame.
  2. To measure height, use standard inside measuring procedures
Mitered Shades on Bay Windows†

Measuring Inside Mount:

  1. If the valance is to be flush with the front of the opening, measure the front width of the window opening and add 1-5/8" for the width of each shade. This will be the shade size. The factory will automatically take an allowance of 1/4" off each shade for clearance, unless you specify otherwise.
  2. To measure height, use standard inside measuring procedures

Measuring Outside Mount/Ceiling Mount:

  2. To measure height, use standard inside measuring procedures

Cathedral (Arch) Top††

Measuring Inside Mount:

  1. Measure width of window opening at three different places and use narrowest dimension for ordering. The factory will automatically take an allowance of 1/2" unless you specify otherwise.
  2. For height, measure from the highest point on the arch to the top of sill. Factory does not take any allowances on height.
  3. Template required.

Measuring Outside Mount:

  1. Measure exact width and height of area to be covered. It is recommended that shades overlap the window frame or opening by 1-1/2" on each side for a total overlap of 3".
  2. Template required.

Angle Top†††

Measuring Inside Mount:

  1. Measure width of window opening at 3 different places and use narrowest dimension for ordering. The factory will automatically take an allowance of 1/2" unless you specify otherwise.
  2. Measure height of opening on left side from top of opening to top of sill. Mark this dimension "left" on order form. Factory does not take any allowances on height.
  3. Measure height of opening on right side from top of opening to top of sill. Mark this dimension "right" on order form. Factory does not take any allowances on height.
  4. Factory will determine the angle from these dimensions.

Measuring Outside Mount:

  1. Measure exact width and height of area to be covered. It is recommended that shades overlap window frame or opening by 1-1/2" on each side.
  2. Measure height of opening on left side and mark this dimension "left." Allow for overlap as desired: 1-1/2" on top and bottom is recommended.
  3. Measure height of opening on right side and mark this dimension "right." Allow for the same overlap as left side.
  4. Factory will determine the angle from these three dimensions.

Custom Natural Shades is rated 4.3333 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Shades Shades are beautiful, although one is a bit too long. I love the one touch operation. They seem a bit overpriced, but that may depend on how long they last.
