How to Install Sheer Shadings

By following these guidelines, installing our custom sheer shadings is a simple task. For detailed instructions, you can download the specific product instructions below.

Tools Needed

  • Metal Tape Measure
  • Screwdrivers (both flat & Phillips head)
  • 1/4" Nutdriver
  • Pliers and/or scissors (heavy-duty)
  • Safety Glasses
  • Drywall Anchors
  • Pencil
  • Drill with Bits
  • Level
  • Ladder (if necessary)

Getting Started

  • Confirm the headrail and shade are the proper width and length. If installing several sets of shades, be sure to match them with the appropriate windows.
  • Check the installation surface to ensure you have suitable fasteners and tools.
  • Lay out and organize all parts and components.
  • Order will include the correct number of installation brackets for your shade width.
  • Shade orders may also include spacer blocks or extension brackets, if they were specified, for added clearance.

Inside Mount

Step 1: Mark the Bracket Locations

1. Before marking bracket locations, ensure that your bracket placement will not interfere with any components inside the headrail.

2. Mark 2" to 3" from each jamb for bracket location.

3. With a pencil, mark the longer, oblong drill hole locations through the top of the holes of the bracket, 2 holes per bracket.

4. With a pencil, mark the installation brackets or extension bracket screw locations through the larger, oblong rear holes of the bracket, 2 screws per bracket.

5. If more than two installation brackets come with your order, space additional bracket(s) evenly between the two end brackets.

Step 2: Install the Brackets

1. Pre-drill screw holes.

  • If installing brackets into wood, use supplied screws.
  • If installing into drywall, use anchors in combination with supplied screws.

2. Screw in brackets at marked locations, 2 screws per bracket.

3. Ensure all brackets are square with each other.

Step 3: Install the Shade

1. Position the shading so that the front faces you.

2. Slide the headrail into the installation brackets so the edge of the headrail is between the lever and the bracket.

3. Firmly push the headrail into each bracket until it clicks and the lever snaps to the right side of the bracket.

Outside Mount

Step 1: Mark the Bracket Locations

IMPORTANT: The rear of the brackets must be flush against a flat mounting surface. Do NOT mount brackets on curved molding.

1. Center the headrail over the window opening at the desired height.

2. Use a pencil to lightly mark each end of the headrail.

3. Mark approximately 2” to 3” from each end of the headrail.

4. If more than two installation brackets come with your order, space additional bracket(s) evenly between the two end brackets.

5. With a pencil, mark the installation brackets or extension bracket screw locations through the larger, oblong rear holes of the bracket, 2 screws per bracket.

6. Use a level to ensure all brackets are aligned.

Step 2: Install the Brackets

1. Pre-drill screw holes.

  • If installing brackets into wood, use supplied screws.
  • If installing into drywall, use anchors in combination with supplied screws.

2. Screw in brackets at marked locations, 2 screws per bracket.

3. Ensure all brackets are square with each other.
