Reduce Your Annual Energy Bill

LEVOLOR'S exclusive Energy Shield™ provides year round insulation and energy savings. Loss of energy through windows can account for 10 to 20 percent of a home's heating and cooling costs. Only LEVOLOR provides a full line of energy efficient, beautifully matched fabrics that easily blend and coordinate with your existing home décor. When choosing a cellular shade for your home, consider both its R-Value and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient since both factors are used to calculate how a shade can reduce your heating and cooling costs. Energy Shield works to address both by providing additional insulation and eliminating air flow through the shade while providing filtered light. Energy Shield comes standard on our Sheer Efficiency™ collection and can be added to our Light Filtering Designer Textures and Designers Colors Collections.

Climate Map

No matter where you live, LEVOLOR has an Accordia™ Shade solution that will help keep your home comfortable while reducing energy costs. Use this map as a guide to find the right shade for your climate.

Northern Climates: Choose Sheer Efficiency™ or Light Filtering with Energy Shield.™ Both will let the warmth of the sun help heat your home, while the Energy Shield™ works as a barrier to keep internal air from escaping through windows.

Central Climates: Transformations™ combines two fabrics to maximize your energy efficiency and help reduce heating and cooling costs. On cold days, the Light Filtering fabric helps capture sunlight while blocking cold air to help heat your home. On hot, sunny days, the Room Darkening fabric controls light and blocks out the heat, keeping your home cooler.

Southern Climates: If you live in a warm, sunny area, choose a Room Darkening product to help block the sun from heating your room. Choose from our Designer Textures or Designer Colors collections.

Understanding the Science

Below is a quick visual reference on how R-Value and Solar Heat Gain work with the shade to reduce energy costs. R-Value and SHGC vary by product collection.

R-Value refers to the shade's ability to block out temperature differences. A higher R-Value indicates a better insulating shade.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) is a measure of how much solar energy passes into your home. In colder climates, a higher SHGC is preferred because it allows the sun to heat the room.

Exclusive Energy Shield™

Our exclusive Energy Shield provides additional insulation to help block air, reducing your annual energy bill up to 17%*. Energy Shield comes standard in our Sheer Efficiency™ Collection and is also available on Light Filtering Designer Textures and Light Filtering Designer Colors collections.

When the weather is warm:

  • Blocks outdoor heat, even on sunny days
  • Contains cooled air, so rooms stay comfortable longer

When the weather is cool:

  • Insulates to help prevent heat loss
  • Works as a barrier to keep cold air from entering your home

Sheer Efficiency™ Collection

LEVOLOR'S Sheer Efficiency™ Collection is the perfect product for colder climates. It provides the right blend of R-Value and SHGC to provide a product suited for cold climates, by both blocking out cold air and allowing natural sunlight to help heat your room.

The many benefits of Sheer Efficiency™ include:

  • Reduces annual energy bills
  • Naturally heats interiors using the sun's warmth
  • Blocks incoming cold air

How to Measure

Measure For Inside Mounting

Measuring For Inside Mount Cellular Shades

Find Width:

Measure exact distance between inside surfaces of window frame at the top, middle, and bottom, and use the narrowest width. Do not make any width deductions. For custom shades, the factory will automatically deduct 3/8" from the shade width; for Stock shades, a 1/2" deduction will be taken on the entire shade.

Find Height:

Measure exact distance from inside surface at top of window to sill. If you prefer shade not to touch sill, deduct 1/4". If there is no sill, measure height to point where shade is to reach.

Measure For Outside Mounting

Measuring For Outside Mount Cellular Shades

Find Width:

Measure exact distance between the outermost points where the shade is to be placed. This measurement should overlap each side of window frame by at least 1-1/2". Factory makes no deduction from your shade width dimensions.

Find Height:

Measure exact distance from where top of shade will be located to top of sill. If there is no sill or if shade is to overlap window frame, measure to point shade is to reach

Allow Some Overlap

For outside mount applications allow the shade to overlap 1-1/2" to 3" on the sides, top and bottom of the window.

You must add the overlap to your measurement; LEVOLOR does not add width or height for overlap on Outside Mounted shades.

Measure For Multiple Blinds per Headrail

Measuring For Inside Mount Multiple Shades on One Headrail

Overall Shade Width - Measure exact distance between inside surfaces of window frame at the top, middle, and bottom, and use the narrowest width. Order the narrowest measurement.

Left Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the left shade to cover. Order this shade first when placing your order.

Right Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the right shade to cover.

Height - Measure exact distance from inside surface at top of window to sill. If you prefer shade not to touch sill, deduct 1/4". If there is no sill, measure height to point where shade is to reach.

Notes

The left shade width plus the innerspace, plus the right shade width must equal the overall shade width.

There will be a 1/4" innerspace between the fabric on the left and right shade to allow for shades to operate independently. This standard innerspace can be increased if customer requests; the minimum is 1/4" and the maximum is 2-1/2".

Measure For Multiple Blinds per Headrail

Measuring For Outside Mount Multiple Shades on One Headrail

Overall Shade Width - Measure the desired overall shade width. For maximum privacy, add an additional 3" to the total width.

Left Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the left shade to cover. Order this shade first when placing your order.

Right Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the right shade to cover.

Height - Measure the desired height. For maximum privacy, add an additional 3" to the total height.

How to Install Custom Cellular Shades

Before you begin your installation:

Read all installation instructions!

  • Make sure that you have all tools and hardware needed for installation.
  • Check the installation surface (wall, ceiling, or window frame) to ensure that you have suitable fasteners and tools for the material.
  • Double check the headrail and shade for proper width and length. If you are installing several sets of shades, be sure to match them with the appropriate window.
  • Check the parts list shipped with the product to confirm that you have the correct number of brackets.

Tools You May Need (not included):

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Pencil
  • Level
  • Tape measure
  • Safety glasses
  • Drill/drill bits (1/16" drill bit may be used to pre-drill for screws)
  • Wrench (if using extension brackets)
  • 1/4" Hex nutdriver (optional for mounting screws)
  • Drywall anchors

Mounting Brackets:

Two mounting screws needed per bracket.

Optional Brackets:

Extension Brackets

(Offers clearance for obstructions) Outside mounting extension brackets will provide 1"-3" clearance between the headrail and mounting surface. Assemble extension bracket as shown. Secure an extension bracket to each standard mounting bracket.

Spacers

Outside mounting spacers will provide an additional 3/8" clearance as shown. If spacers are used, longer screws may be required to ensure a secure installation. Utilize one spacer behind each bracket.

Hold-Down Brackets

(Eliminates Sway) Ideal for doors, hold-down brackets prevent shade from swaying. Assemble as shown to each side of bottomrail.

Side-Mount Brackets

(Ideal for windows below transoms and arches) Alternative mounting method when no frame is available above the window for mounting. Use only if shade dimensions fall within 6" W x 6" L (corded) or 12" W x 12" L (cordless) to a maximum of 48" W x 72" L.

Step 1A

Mark the bracket locations - outside mount installation (installation outside window casing)

  • Measure headrail width.
  • End brackets should be approximately 1"-2" in from each end of the headrail. Space any remaining brackets evenly across the headrail, no more than 30" apart - motor location on cordless.
NOTE:Ensure that bracket placement will not interfere with any components inside the headrail.
  • With a pencil, mark the mounting screw locations through the rear holes of the bracket, 2 per bracket. Use a level to ensure bracket alignment.
  • Go to Step 2A.

Step 2A

Install the brackets - outside mount installation (installation outside window casing)

  • Using pencil marks as a guide, start the screw hole by pre-drilling (wood and metal mounting surfaces only).
  • Hold bracket with surface marked "top" facing up. Holding bracket in place, secure with screws, 2 per bracket.
  • Repeat for each bracket.
  • Use a level to confirm brackets are level.

Example: Installation on drywall using drywall anchors and included screws.

Corded

Cordless

Step 1B

Mark the bracket locations - inside mount installation (installation inside window casing)

  • Verify that window casing has a minimum depth of 5/8" for corded and 1/2" for cordless shades
  • Place the bracket on the inside top of the window frame, 1"-2" in from the ends. Space any remaining brackets evenly across the proposed headrail location, no more than 30" apart.
  • If flush mount is desired, place the bracket 2-1/4" back from the inside top of the window frame.
  • With a pencil, mark the drill hole locations through the tip holes of the bracket, 2 per bracket.
  • Go to step 2B

Step 2B

Install the brackets - inside mount installation (installation inside window casing)

  • Using pencil marks as a guide, start the screw hole by pre-drilling (wood and metal mounting surfaces only).
  • Hold bracket with surface marked "top" facing up. Holding bracket in place, secure with screws, 2 per bracket.
  • Repeat for each bracket.
  • Make sure brackets are square with each other.

Example: Installation on a wood window frame using the included screws.

Corded

Cordless

Step 3A

Install shade on brackets

Corded Shades/Angles/Specialty Shapes

  • Hook the rear lip of the headrail on the mounting bracket spring tab.
  • While pushing back against the bracket, rotate the front of the headrail upward to engage the top locking tab of the mounting bracket. The shade will easily snap onto the bracket.
  • CAUTION: Be sure the bracket and headrail are properly secured before operating the shade.
  • To remove the shade: While pushing back on the headrail, rotate the front of the headrail down. Never force the spring tab beyond the back of the bracket.
  • See 3B for installing cordless shades or continuous cordloop shades

Step 3B

Install shade on brackets

Cordless/Continuous Cordloop Shades

  • Hang the curved front side of the headrail on front lip of brackets.
  • Rotate headrail backward toward window until a snapping sound is heard. This will let you know that the shade is engaged into brackets.
  • CAUTION: Be sure that the bracket and headrail are properly secured before operating the shade.
  • Use included hex-head screw (#8 X 1-1/4" long) to secure the shu-clip (attached to cordloop) to mounting surface, ensuring that the cordloop is taut.

To remove headrail from bracket: Insert flat head screwdriver into square opening on bracket tab. Push backward to disengage tab from headrail.

Step 4

Install decorative drapery hardware valance (optional)

  • Hook the valance on the front of the headrail and rotate downward until all snaps engage under the headrail.
  • Screw the finials into the holes at each end of the valance.

Cleaning and Care

All LEVOLOR Accordia™ Cellular Shades are made for a lifetime of carefree use and are made of 100% polyester for durability. Your shade illustrates another facet of quality with its easy care advantage.

Recomended Cleaning Methods

Dusting
To maintain a like new appearance Accordia™ Cellular Shades can be cleaned with a feather duster or a brush-type vacuum cleaner attachment; stroke lightly over the shade to clean.

Spot Cleaning/Stain Removal
At Home - Using warm water and a mild soap if needed (mild soap includes products such as Woolite® or Scotchgard® Upholstery cleaner) spot clean the shade by going back and forth gently in the direction parallel to the pleats in the fabric. Once stain is removed pat with a clean, dry towel to remove excess water and let dry. Make sure shade is fully open to air dry. Be careful not to crush or wrinkle the fabric. Avoid contact with window cleaning products.

Call local on-site blind/shade cleaner - Most on-site blind and shade cleaners use a cleaning method called injection/extraction cleaning. This type of cleaning injects a cleaning solution into the fabric and extracts the dirty solution at the same time. It is a very effective way to clean your Accordia™ Cellular Shades. The service is typically performed at home so you do not need to remove your window treatment. Check your local phonebook for companies in your area.

Energy Efficiency

Understanding the Science
Not only does LEVOLOR have beautiful colors and exclusive woven fabrics, it also has the most energy efficient shading solutions on the market. Two things to consider when looking at how to increase energy efficiency are R-Value and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient. It is the combination of the two that helps you calculate the amount of savings on your heating and cooling costs.

R-Value
R-Value refers to the shade's ability to block out temperature differences, such as cold air outside in the winter. A higher R-Value indicates a better insulating shade.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)
Solar Heat Gain is a measure of how much solar energy passes into your home. In northern climates, a higher SHGC is preferred because it allows the sun to heat the room. While in more southern climates, a lower SHGC is better because it blocks the sun.

Custom Accordia™ Cellular Shades is rated 4.4576271186440675 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding warranty service I had three metal Levolor skylight shades in the ceiling of my sunroom, and the tilt controls failed from years of exposure and heat. They were sold with a "forever" warranty 23 years ago, and to my surprise, Levolor honored the warranty! The Accordia specialty shades were the recommended replacement. It was handled by Lowe's and a third party installer, who were both excellent. A second trip by the installer was needed to tighten the guide wires, but they fit perfectly and look great. The Levolor people were professional and accommodating. To honor a warranty that was decades old is exceptional customer service that deserves to be recognized.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheap quality Bought top down, bottom up room darkening shade. After installation it leaves 1 inch of space at the top where light comes through. Reported to Levolor who promptly sent out a replacement. Replacement shade does exactly the same thing. The one I have in my office which is not room darkening also leaves space at the top but not as bad. Decided to return to store and try my luck with a different brand, but cannot after several attempts remove the blind from the window even after following very simple directions provided. This blind just seems very cheap and does not serve it's purpose of keeping out light.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ordering site below average, blinds are very heavy I had to do the entire order at least 3 times because my card was empty when I returned before completing the order. Every time I returned I had to log in twice. It was frustrating and the site did not work in a logical way. I do this sort of ordering all the time and this site is just not good. As for the product, they look fine but are very heavy. I know it takes a certain amount of weight to make sure the blinds come down reliably, but we've had similar blinds before without this problem. It can be very difficult to grip the cord well enough to pull them up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 7/8 are perfect We recently built a home & bought 8 blinds - 6 for bedrooms, 1 in kitchen, 1 in Living room. 7 work perfect, 1 in a bedroom slides up slowly after being pulled down. We've changed its location in the room so it is not as much of an issue but we would definitely return this blind if we could (custom sized). All blinds were easy to measure for and install. All do a great job of blocking out light and it's obvious they have a positive effect on the temp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and great quality We had a Home Depot employee install levelor blinds in our previous house. He accidentally ordered cordless and we ended up loving them so much we just installed them in our new home. This time, we ordered online and installed ourselves which saved us $2000 compared to the blind estimate we got from a local vendor. They blinds are great and levolor customer service had been great on helping us out (I mis-measured one window). The blackout blinds keep the kids room dark which is great for nap time! Could not say enough great things about our experience!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Levolor Designer Textures look great in LR and DR! I bought the Levolor Custom Accordia cellular shades in "Designer Textures Light Filtering" and "Sand" (cordless, outside mount). I bought four of them to match the front four windows on the downstairs front of my house (dining room and living room). Before ordering, I stressed over the color and the dimensions, and thank goodness I'm thrilled with my decisions. The texture and color go perfectly with the more formal decoration in the rooms, and they let in the right amount of light while providing some privacy. The cordless feature is well-made. (I have cats, and they would play with a cord.) The outside of the shades is a bright white (a little brighter white than I would like, but fine). I had to get the outside mount design, because my window casings are too shallow. But I did not want to cover up my molding with the shades, so I ordered the shades to be narrower, overlapping the molding only slightly. I mounted the shades on the wall above the upper molding, and covered up the upper hardware with a swag drapery. Thankfully I ordered them to be about 6 inches longer than the window, to give me the flexibility to mount them above the window. I would highly recommend ordering them at least 4 inches longer than you think you'll need, just to make sure. You don't have to ever fully extend them. When the shades are extended, the shades sit a bit away from the wall (small gap), which lets out some light, but it doesn't matter in these rooms. This won't happen if you are able to get an inside mount. Looks great!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from mix experience Good: good fabric Bad: Levolor cordless cellular shades are a joke. None of the shades are lifting up out of more than 10 I purchased. Levolor asked $75 per shade (plus shipping) to retrofit and add pull strings.
